Still No Online Presence?

· 3 min read ·

A business with no online presence still exists. It just exists less: for people who already know it, who walk past the door, or who heard about it from a friend. For everyone else, the decision gets made on a phone, in three minutes, somewhere between search results and social media pages where your business isn't.

Fixing that doesn't take an elaborate digital plan. It takes a place where the information is correct, a name that turns up when someone searches for it, and someone on the other end to answer. The reasons below are the ones we hear most often from people who come to us too late.

1. Reaching people who don't know you yet

Most people search before they buy, even when the purchase ends up happening in a physical shop. They search the company name, compare two or three, read what they find and choose. A business with no website and no up-to-date social profiles doesn't enter that comparison at all: it doesn't lose by a whisker, it's simply not in the running.

A website also solves a more basic problem: having the right information in a place that's yours. Opening hours, address, what you do, what you don't do, how to get in touch. Without it, that information is scattered across directories, maps and reviews you don't control, and often out of date.

2. Growing the volume of business

Being online shortens the path between interest and contact. A form, a visible phone number, a message button: each of these turns someone who was reading into someone talking to you. For a shop, the path is even shorter, because the purchase happens on the same page.

It's also what makes it safe to invest in advertising. Without a destination of your own, money spent on digital marketing leads people nowhere. With one, you can measure how many arrived, how many got in touch, and where they came from — and adjust from there.

3. Giving the brand some weight

There's a less obvious effect: consistency. When the logo, colours, tone and photography are the same on the website, the shopfront and social media, a business looks bigger and steadier than when every touchpoint seems to belong to a different company. That's what branding work is about, and it's the difference between being remembered and being mistaken for the competition.

Being present also means answering. An unanswered question on a post, an ignored comment, or a bounced email are signals anyone reads instantly. An online presence isn't just about publishing — it's about being reachable.

Where to start

In order, and without spending everything at once:

  • a website with the essential information, fast and easy to read on a phone;
  • an email address on the company's own domain;
  • social profiles on the networks your customers actually use — two well kept are worth more than five abandoned ones;
  • the business listing on maps, with the correct address, hours and phone number.

Only after this does it make sense to talk about campaigns, content and growth. That's how we worked with Toptronics, an electrical installation company in the Aveiro district that needed, first of all, a place where what it does could be explained.

Why nobody in the company trusts the numbers

If every department brings its own spreadsheet to the meeting, the problem isn't a lack of training. It's that the systems have never said the same thing twice in a row.

Where to start preparing a company for AI

You don't prepare an entire company for artificial intelligence. You prepare one case, take it all the way through, and learn from it — the second one already costs less.

The only limit is creativity.
